DESIRE MANAGEMENT, 2023
by JIAJUN CHEN

Throughout history, humans have exploited the natural environment to satisfy their own desires. Although we now recognize the importance of protecting the environment for sustainable development, the environment continues to deteriorate in terms of climate anomalies, species decline, and resource depletion.

Looking ahead, we face a scarcity of resources. Humans will have to mediate the consequences of their insatiable desires, and face uncertainty about the continuation of humanity.
To meet these challenges, I envision a future in which people can meet their basic survival needs with minimal resources and stimulate the release of the corresponding human hormones (dopamine, serotonin, endorphins and oxytocin) through smell, sight and corresponding physical contact (human acupoints). By promoting the secretion of these hormones to meet people’s mental needs, an alternative way to satisfy people’s desires brings a glimmer of possibility for human futures.
