TERRAMATION, 2023

by EMMA GRIFFITHS

Terramation is the act of burial through human composting. Envisioning the world in 2160 when this has become the predominant method of funeral practice, we explore the lives of people living in cites that they share with the dead.

In a climate conscious future, we explore how the urban landscape, attitude towards death, language, and superstition evolves to embrace this new tradition and how we view ourselves as part of the larger ecosystem.

When the parks and pathways contain the stories of our ancestors, the streets whisper with messages from beyond the grave. Spiritualists and mediums develop new ways to talk to our departed. Seeking connection through the earth we speak to the collective dead, looking for guidance or closure.
