DESIGN FOR ETERNITY , 2023
by CHUAN QIN

I believe that humankind has always had a fundamental urge to leave their mark on Earth. These recordings include history books and magnificent structures such as the pyramids and Stonehenge. In some ways, they hope people in the future will understand our lives today. A question remains: if people have a desire to leave their mark, could we design these artefacts to last for eternity?

Leaving a legacy has its limitations. We know everything created will eventually disappear. No matter the method or strength of the material, it will be lost. Countless previous histories are proof of this. Examples range from the monumental statue of Zeus, and buildings such as the great lighthouse, to the countless archives of knowledge. However, all have faded into the dust of history.

But there is a possibility, an idea which may be stronger than even the most robust material that can withstand the test of time. What is it? How does it resist time? I put these answers in a book. It lies in wait, in the library's heart, and it is your task to find it.
Good luck in solving the clues to find the book.

This project was created by CHUAN QIN, as part of the Design for Discourse emphasis on the MA Industrial Design course at Central Saint Martins, UAL.
